Profile at a Glance

Hamirpur Municipal Corporation, located in Himachal Pradesh, is responsible for the administration and development of the Hamirpur district. The Corporation manages urban planning, public health, sanitation, and civic infrastructure to ensure smooth functioning of the town and its surroundings.

The Corporation is governed by three main authorities: the House, the House Committees, and the Municipal Commissioner.

The House is the legislative wing, consisting of Councillors directly elected by the people. The House may also include a few nominated members with expertise in municipal administration. The House is headed by a Mayor and assisted by a Deputy Mayor.

House Committees are formed to facilitate effective governance and smooth functioning of the legislative processes.

The Municipal Commissioner acts as the administrative head of the Corporation. All executive and administrative powers for day-to-day functions are vested in the Commissioner, who is appointed by the State Government. The Commissioner is assisted by a Joint or Assistant Commissioner who supervises the administrative staff and implements the decisions of the Corporation.

The Corporation carries out its functions through various well-organized departments, each headed by the concerned HoDs, overseeing areas like health, education, public works, and revenue collection.

Elected Body

The elected body of Hamirpur Municipal Corporation consists of councillors elected for a tenure of five years. Councillors elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor from among themselves, usually for a tenure of two and a half years. This body is responsible for decision-making, policy formulation, and monitoring the execution of development projects.

The Corporation has several statutory and non-statutory committees represented by councillors. These committees manage the obligatory and discretionary functions of the Corporation, ensuring accountability and efficiency in governance.
